Pressing Media supports Tanzania Heart Babies Project

Recently we were approached to be a part of the
Tanzania Heart Babies Project.
We are very proud to be a part of their mission!

“Tanzania, a nation of 45 million people, tells a compelling, poignant story about little Tanzanian children dying needlessly.  Approximately
1 out of 200 children born there suffers from congenital heart defects.
With lack of paediatric cardiac surgical facilities, these children have to be sent to India for open heart surgery. As you read this now, and at any given moment, more than a thousand children await surgery.  Their only hope for life lies in the generosity of donors.

That’s where the Tanzania Heart Babies Project comes in! Our mission is to provide a new lease of life to these children in Tanzania by raising funds for their open-heart surgeries and create awareness about the urgent need for pediatric cardiac surgery facilities in Tanzania.

Apart from the year round fundraising events and global networking carried out by the student team in Vancouver, their most challenging yet highly rewarding fundraiser has been their global ‘ #NEVERREST Everest campaign.’

12 students of different nationalities, namely Malaika Kapur, Anne-Sophie Deman, Kunal Sethi, Tanaya Bhardwaj, Juan Daniel Leano, Tim Dominic Martiniak, George Parry, Chris Heine, Johannah Cramer, Benjamin Bar Gera, Stefan Djordjevic and Tyson Miao led by Sharu Scott Prabhu from Ireland undertook a 19 day journey to reach Everest Base Camp as well as summit Kala Pathar at 18,513 ft (5643m) feet as a two- fold humanitarian drive:
a.) to raise funds for Open Heart surgeries for Tanzanian children born with congenital heart defects.
b.) to create greater awareness globally of the urgent need for enhanced paediatric cardiac surgery facilities in Tanzania.

Flying from Canada on 1st May 2014, beginning the climb from Lukla in Nepal on 5th May, conquering Everest Base Camp on 13th May, 2014, the team completed their descent from the Himalayas and reached Khatmandu on 18th May. After a long, arduous and formidable climb, the students find their greatest reward has been the generous contributions and pledges pouring in from donors all over the world. With 6 heart surgeries pledged for, and other donations being made, the team has been successful in gathering funds to save 10  Tanzanian Babies.
