BluRay Manufacturing 101

When DVD was first introduced, there was a large learning curve for Audio – Visual professionals. Knowing how to create, author, output masters and provide ready to press project assets is vital to a projects success. In order to manufacture BluRay discs, there are also new forms of content security systems (AACS/ISAN) and specialized mastering costs added to the mix. This necessary new technology for BluRay has proven to be the most exceptional, secure, qualified content delivery media ever invented.

In order to alleviate some of the stress many of our video clients are experiencing, we have simplified the process below as BluRay will soon replace standard DVD for high definition media.

What Assets Do I Need For My BluRay Project?

1) AACS Account

Program content owners desiring to release their content on BluRay disc must license themselves with the AACS Licensing Authority and pay the applicable membership fee. Content Providers must become licensed to receive the Licensee ID Code necessary to make their BluRay disc titles.

2) ISAN Account

Another requirement is that all BluRay disc source masters must contain a   valid V-ISAN code.Content owners must register with their local ISAN agency and pay the applicable fees.

3) Content Master

The standard for BluRay masters has not officially been defined. We recommended that the content master is delivered in the latest version of a BDCMF image on a  2.5″ USB/firewire removable hard drive.

4) Artwork

Please note for the usage of the Blu-ray logo / RPC-Logo (region code), a CPA-Light license of the Blu-ray Disc Association is a legal requirement.  For more information click here: Please deliver all artwork in high resolution PDF version 1.3 or in one of the following formats: Quarkexpress 7 Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop or Illustrator)
